Materials Handling

UntitledFaced with ever increasing labour costs organisations must ensure they are utilising the most cost effective solutions to their materials handling requirements. The increased computing power available to make machines “intelligent” has enabled systems designers to produce ever more complex materials handling systems whose applications extend ever wider.

The development of these smarter, faster systems able to efficiently and cost effectively support today’s workplaces has been almost exponential during the last twenty years mirroring the impact of computers upon the workplace in general. Efficiency, speed, accuracy and reliability are all demands which favour automation of processes and materials handling.

An appreciation of the advances that have taken place and those continual changes and developments that are being undertaken is especially visible in manufacturing industry particularly the automotive, nuclear, pharmaceutical and semi-conductor industries. Retailers, airports; distribution warehousing and increasingly hospitals are all areas where automation of the flow of materials is becoming increasingly widespread.

In depth studies of client’s system requirements are essential to ensure that potentially high capital sums are expended in the most efficient and appropriate manner by careful system planning and life cycle costing of scheme solutions. Early materials handling systems utilised mechanical elements to provide the drive and control functions. The inclusion of ‘intelligent’ controls relies upon a successful blending of the mechanical and electronic systems to ensure reliable operation.

We have been responsible for the designing, specifying and start up of over 700 individual materials handling systems. These systems encompassed:

Our personnel have extensive analytical arid operational-experience of complete systems and their individual components in terms of mechanical, electrical, computer or software functions. Each application is unique in its own right. The best solutions are derived not only from an in-depth knowledge of available equipment and current and future developments but also extensive experience of the implementation of systems.

We have developed our own materials management philosophies, simulation techniques and CAD capabilities to plan, design, specify, test and implement systems.

  • Automated Guided Vehicle Systems
  • Bar Code Scanning Systems
  • Conveyor Systems
  • Manual Cart Systems
  • Pneumatic Tube Systems
  • Dumbwaiters, Manual and Automatic
  • Automated Box Conveyor Systems
  • Baggage Handling Systems
  • Sorting Systems
  • Document Handling and Storage Systems
  • RF Picking Systems
  • Voice Recognition Systems
  • Scissor Lifts, Lift and Dock Levellers

We assess the need for material transport systems – developing designs offering maximum payback based on lifecycle costings, creating equipment plans and preparing specifications for competitive bids and cost-effective operations. Our consultants provide analysis of existing operations, programming and training as well as project management.
